About KEHRSEITE:

Originally it was a commissioned work with the requirement to create a solo to a piece by Bach. I decided on the Double Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (1st movement, Vivace, BWV 1043). The music indirectly suggests the theme. Two violins are associated with the two fronts of the body (front and back), which for me symbolise the two sides of life – the reverse sides, so to speak. The specific meaning of these two sides remains abstract and is left to the interpretation of the audience.

The choreography strictly follows the musical structure and reflects its complexity. It is characterised by an unstoppable, almost dramatic drive, but always maintains a certain form.

It is based on a complex sequence of precise movements that originate in the arms and gradually spread to the entire body. The solo begins centred in place with the back to the audience. The movements focus on the space behind and to the sides of the body. The arms begin to move increasingly three-dimensionally and initiate a front switch. Everything starts all over again, now in front of the body, with a new perspective. Climax. Silence. The movement sequence is fragmented, with individual parts serve as new movement impulses. A rupture. Again from the beginning, but now at twice the speed, with the body moving backwards along a line. Another rupture. Repetition and variation. Everything begins anew and is finally brought together in a final ending.
